Directed by Tobias Lindholm
Starring Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne
Netflix has become a good source for films in recent years, they are releasing a lot of good films. This one was released on October 26 on Netflix after one week in theaters.
The story is mainly told through Amy, she is a nurse working in a hospital. She has a heart condition that she is keeping a secret because she needed to work four months more to get insurance. The hospital hires Charles Cullen as a nurse and he and Amy form a friendship. Until she begins to suspect that Cullen is doing something wrong.
I had no idea that the film was based on a true story and that it involved a serial killer who killed 29 patients, at least that is what he confessed. The film itself I think failed to add a little more suspense because even if it dealt with a killer there were no moments where I felt tense, not even during the investigation. I am not saying they should have made anything up, but it just felt short of becoming a film that grabbed you. Now that does not make the film bad, I liked it and was interested in what was going on in the film.
Eddie Redmayne gives a brilliant performance, I think he is worth watching in this movie. Jessica Chastain was also good in the film. I think their performance is one of the best reasons to see the film. It has a good cast but it is the stars of the film that shine and carry the film.
I thought the movie was good and interesting, I think it missed the opportunity to add a bit of tension to the film because it has a few moments but it needed more for me.
