Raymond and Ray (2022)

Directed by Rodrigo Garcia

Starring Ewan McGregor, Ethan Hawk, Jailyn Baiden

Released on Apple TV, I wanted to see the movie because of the two actors. I read what it was about but saw no trailer so I was in for a ride of the unexpected in terms of what the film would bring.

The story focuses on half-brothers Raymond and Ray, they share the same name and hatred for their father. They are reunited as their father dies and his last wish was for all his sons to dig his grave and be at the funeral.

This is a very well-written film. It is a heavy drama as the two main characters remember and go through their past and bad relationship with their father. I liked the story and the movie, but it is a character-driven film where it just tells a story with nothing big happening, just a realistic story about family, grief, and forgiveness. What works precisely is that the characters are interesting and unique and even Harris who is dead in the movie, has a strong presence in the movie.

Ewan McGregor and Ethan Hawk are both great in the movie. Making the film worth watching just to see their performance. And they have a great supporting cast.

In the end, I enjoyed the movie because it felt like a real story full of flawed characters that are trying to just get by.
