Carrie Pilby (2016)

Directed by Susan Johnson

Starring Bel Powley, Nathan Lane, Vanessa Bayer, Jason Ritter

In vacation mode and for me that means watching movies. This one I found this one on Netflix and it looked interesting. Also, I liked the cast so I

decided to stay up late and see the movie.

The movie tells us the story of Carrie Pilby, a child prodigy that is struggling to be happy. Her mother died and she has issues with her father and seeing a therapist. Her therapist challenges her to complete a list of things to help her.

I loved the film, but first I have to say that I love films that are character driven and the focus of the movie is that character’s journey. I loved the story and the characters, but for some, the movie might be slow because I was interested in the character, and I was enjoying the film. The movie is mainly drama but it has funny scenes and a lot of heart.

Bel Powley’s performance was beautiful. She was funny, moving, and strong just like the character required. She is supported by great performances by Nathan Lane and Gabriel Byrne. Vanessa Bayer provided the laughs, she is so funny in SNL, and in the movie, she gave life to a funny character.

I loved the movie but I recommend it to those who like films where it just revolves around a character and not much else.
