Do Revenge (2022)

Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson

Starring Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke

This is a new teen-comedy movie released on Netflix. As I am no longer a teenager by age, for me to like a movie aimed at teens the film has to have an intelligent plot and story. That does not mean a movie is bad if I don’t like it because in the end it is not aimed at me, but a good movie can break the age barrier and be enjoyed by everyone.

The story is centered around Drea, she is popular in school and is dating the most popular boy at school. All that comes to an end when she sends a topless video to her boyfriend and it gets leaked online and she is then cast out by her friends and everyone at school. She meets Eleanor, a girl who will be at her school next year and she was also a victim of someone spreading a rumor about her that ruined her life. They both form a friendship and agree to take down those that hurt them.

I have to say that I liked the movie a lot. I think it has a good story, beyond the typical high school clichés, lied an original and funny story that was truly entertaining. Characters even though most of them are not likable, you are still intrigued to see what happens and if they change. Eleanor and Drea are complex and evil characters that were to watch. The film is not perfect, but I think it is a movie that can entertain both the teen crowd as well as the more adult viewer.

Drea and Eleanor were fun to watch and that has to be credited to the actresses. Maya Hawke who I just learned is Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke’s daughter gave a great performance as this character. And Camila Mendes also gave a great performance.

These movies are a coin toss, some will like them some will not. I have to say that I enjoyed it, not a masterpiece of cinema, but it had a good story and it was fun to watch.
