Licorice Pizza (2022)

Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson

Starting Alana Haim, Cooper Hoffman, Sean Penn, Bradly Cooper

I was curious about this movie because it was getting good reviews. Received a Lot of nominations including Best Picture.

This is a coming-of-age story about Alana. She works as an assistant for a photographer and while working on a high school photo shoot she meets George Valentine who wants to go out with her but she says no. Eventually, the two become friends and even go into business together and the film focuses on Alana and that relationship.

I like coming-of-age movies a lot but this one was a bit of a letdown. I have to put the main blame on the characters. I just could not relate to the characters nor get to like them and I tried. It has an ok story but nothing that kept me wanting to see the journey end, I had to make myself see it through.

The performances of Sean Penn and Bradly Cooper were wasted in the film. It was like Pacino on Gigli, he was great but the film was bad. The same happens here, at least for me.

I have been wanting to see this movie for a while and I have to say it was disappointing. The story is not bad but it just did not reach me I guess.
