Pennywise: The Story of It (2021)

Directed by John Campopiano and Christopher Griffiths

Starring Tim Curry, Tommy Lee Wallace, Seth Green,

I have to admit that I love the movie It. Yes, it scared me like crazy when I first saw it and still in some scenes, but still, I love seeing the movie. I wish I was a reader because the novel written by King sounds interesting and long so a lot of the story was not in the movie, neither one even though the new films were divided into two films that both last over 2 hours.

When I saw this documentary I quickly purchased it. I have similar documentaries that go deep into the making of the Friday and Nightmare series and having one now about Pennywise and the 1990s is just perfect for me because I like to see how the films were made.

Like I said the documentary takes us into the making of the TV miniseries based on Stephen King’s novel It. We go from how King wrote and from there each step in the process of making the movie. It was very interesting as a documentary and it did cover a lot. The one flaw for me was not including the new It films and how they took Pennywise further as a cultural icon. But, I understand that this was a documentary on the film, not Pennywise.

It was great to see most of the cast being interviewed especially the kids because I had not seen them as adults except for Seth Green. And of course, the behind-the-scenes moments with Tim Curry and hearing him talk about the film was great. To hear that he demanded simple makeup was amazing and he pulled off what he told the producers, his performance would scare the audience and it did. Sad moments where they talk about Jonathan Brandis and John Ritter.

If you are a fan of horror and enjoy seeing how the film was made I recommend this documentary.
