There was a time where there were calls scam forcing store managers to conduct strip search someone claiming they have stolen something. This film is loosely based on such scam that took place in a McDonalds in 2004.
It began as a normal day for Rebecca, she was going to work and everything was normal until she is called back by her manager because she is being accused for stealing a customer’s money. The man in the phone tells the manager he is a cop and needs her assistance in discovering the truth.
This is a chilling movie and disturbing in every way. The film is called compliance I believe because it forces us to think about the point where we need to stop and simply decide to not go along with something that does not feel right. The movie is written in a way where no blame is put on the victim for complying but it does make you think how she reached that point where she did what she was told. And what makes it worse is that it is based on true events and you have a manager who was not smart enough to understand no cop would ask those things.
The movie has some great performances. Ann who played the manager did a great job. Walker also gave a great performance in what must have been a tough role to play. Pat also gives a subtle but yet perfect performance for what the film required.
