Starring Tom Cruise, Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller, Jon Hamm, Ed Harris, Val Kilmer
This is a sequel coming 36 years after the release of the original classic film, Top Gun. This is one of Tom Cruise’s best-known movies and was a massive hit in 1986. The sequel has gotten a lot of good reviews so I’m glad that today I got to see it.
The story takes place 36 years after the events of the first film. Maverick world for the Marines testing planes when he is suddenly ordered to go back to Top Gun to be a teacher for a new group of pilots and prepare them for a mission.
I will start by saying that this is what I would call a perfect summer blockbuster movie. The movie is definitively exciting with all the flying scenes and the action. A blockbuster summer movie for me has one aim and that is to entertain, and this definitively does. It is funny at times but has some serious moments as well.
I want to go over a few things. Where the film succeeds the most for me is in the nostalgic factor. I think they handled honoring the first film. It was great seeing Val Kilmer and Cruise together and how they did it.
The one flaw it does not ruin the movie was that some things felt repeated and maybe they could have gone another way. The troubled relationship between Rooster and Hangman felt like seeing Iceman fighting Maverick in the first film. But that was the only thing for me, the rest of the story was fine. At the beginning of the film, Cruise gives thanks for going to the theater and I agree this movie was made for the big screen with all the flying scenes.
The cast was great. Tom Cruise steps back perfectly to the role of Maverick. The new group of pilots and the actors did thy work. It was amazing how Rooster looked like the actor who played his dad.
The movie is exciting and has everything a good summer movie, it has action, comedy, and a good story.
