Directed by Tom Gormican
Starring Nicolas Cage, Pedro Pascual, Tiffani Haddish, Neil Patrick Harris
When I saw the trailer for this film I was interested. The concept of Nicolas Cage playing himself was interesting and the fact that I had not seen him in a film in a while made me want to see the movie.
The story begins as Nick Cage is trying to get a part. He is in debt and needs a major role to get back and break even, while he is struggling to connect with his family. He takes a job in Spain where a man named Javi pays him money just for him to go to his party. The two men connect but there are secrets both men need to face.
I had a lot of fun with this movie. It has a little of everything. I thought it was funny and had good action. The concept of an actor playing himself is not new, but for this film it worked because Nicolas Cage was willing to have fun with his films and image. The movie is like a parody of a genre but it is not made as a parody and that is part of the joke.
The story works for what they wanted to do. I loved the idea of having actor Nick cage do missions for the CIA, and have this leader of a crime organization just wanting to make a movie with Cage.
Nicolas Cage was great and what worked for me was that he was all in, even if it was making fun of his image and persona. Pedro Pascual played great with Cage and was funny. Cage and Pascual had good chemistry together and that was needed for this film to work. It was also good to see Spanish actor Paco de Lucía as the villain, I thought he was good in the film.
