I heard good things about the first film Murder on the Orient Express and this being a sequel I wanted to see it. I have not seen the first one yet but I knew it was not important or necessary to see it to understand this one.
The film is a murder mystery. Hercule Poirot is a known detective who is caught in a wedding party full of drama and reasons to kill. He must solve the mystery and find the killer before everyone on the boat dies.
I like murder mystery films when done right. In this case, I have mixed feelings. I felt it took too long for the mystery to start and the first hour for me felt boring. I understand the story needs to be set up, but I think it could have been done more quickly. The story itself was good and the style of the film worked and was greatly directed. The main thing for me is that it was not predictable and that way once the mystery started I kept guessing as to who was the killer and in that sense the film worked.
The best thing the movie has is the performances. The whole cast was good with maybe Anette Bening standing out a bit from the rest.
Not a perfect film but it makes a good choice for a film to see at home on a Friday night. It is on Hulu and HBO Max. M
