I had this film on my list for a long time. I think what kept me from watching it was that I thought it was just going to be a raunchy teenager film. But as I was looking for films featuring Kaitlyn Dever I finally got to see it.
The story is about Amy and Molly. They are two best friends that throughout high school focused on school to get to the best colleges and that made Molly believe she was better than the rest. Until she found out that other cool kids also were going to great colleges, she realizes she and Amy have one last chance to enjoy high school by going to a party.
I was surprised by this movie. Yes, it is a high school/teenager drama-comedy but it is a smart one that does not rely on teens doing crazy things, like some films after American Pie that just went for outrageous scenes. This one I found to be funny and had a lot of heart. A story about friendship and moving on while trying to hold on still. I thought it was a good coming-of-age film. Even though it had a few, I liked that the characters around them had stories and helped the characters along their journey. The comedy lies in the journey of the two characters and the crazy things they go through trying to find the party. The dialogue is what might be considered raunchy, but it was funny and proper between two friends.
Kaitlyn Dever continues to deliver in my opinion and I will follow her career because so far I have liked her work and in this movie, it’s no exception. Beanie who played Molly was also great in her performance. Both of them shine in my opinion in this movie.
A surprise for me because I did not think I would like it that much. I thought it was a nice story and it was smart funny, by this I mean that it did not rely only on silly characters and outrageous scenes.
