I have to admit that I was never that excited about this film. It looked good in terms of the effects and the concept, but still, I was not drawn to the film. But now that it’s available on Disney + I decided to give it a chance.
The story focuses on a video game named Free City. It is a role-playing game created by Soonami, a game company that stole the concept from Keys and Millie. Millie enters the game looking for evidence within the game to prove they stole her idea. Meanwhile, Guy is a background player that starts to want more than the routine life he had in the game. When he meets Millie he is attracted to her and when he meets her, he helps her in her mission.
I have to say that I think the movie is ok. I liked the effects of the pop culture references. The movie is fun and has cool action scenes. The story was good, I liked the story of Milli and Keys. Honestly, there ain’t much to say other than it’s a fun movie but nothing more than that at least for me.
Maybe what did not work for me was the fact that I am not a fan of Reynolds. I feel he does the same character in all his films, so maybe that biased my opinion on the film, I don’t know. And also Waikiki as the villain did not work for me. The other cast members were fine.
I’m not saying the movie is bad, I enjoyed it and had fun watching it. The references to video games were cool and fun to watch and it has good effects.
