Kimi (2022)

Directed by Steven Soderbergh

Starring Zoe Kravitz, Rita Wilson, Erika Christensen

I have been planning to see this film since it arrived on HBO Max. The concept of the story caught my interest. I have seen a few of Soderbergh’s films and some I have liked others not that much.

The story in this film centers around Angela Childs. There is a device called Kimi that works like Alexa but more advance because an employee is constantly working the algorithms so that the communication between the person and Kimi improves every day. Angela works doing just that. She works at home and does not leave the house because of a trauma. When she hears a recording that sounded like someone needed help she reaches out to get her help.

This movie requires patience. For me, it started slow and I was wondering if something was gonna happen. But the film then turns into this great suspense movie. A lot of it was due to how the director shot the scenes. By the way, it was shot we felt her anxiety for going outside and the suspense of her running from those who wanted to kill her. The story is nothing new but the film is effective thanks to the direction and the acting.

Zoe Kravitz is the one who carries this film and she did a great job. I have not seen her in other movies, but here we can feel what the character was going through. Rita Wilson was good in the brief scene she was in.

So at first, I thought it was going to be a bad movie but by the end, it was worth waiting and sticking with the movie. Once she leaves the apartment the pace of the movie gets better and it gets more interesting.
