Directed by Jane Campion
Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, Kodi Smit-McPhee
This film came to my attention mainly because of all the nominations and acclaim it has received. So I gave it a shot.
The story is about two wealthy brothers who own a ranch. While moving the cattle they stay at an Inn where they meet Peter and Rose. Phil is mean to Peter, who is Rose’s son. George meanwhile marries Rose and that causes friction between the brothers because Phil believes she is after the money. Then Phil and Peter become friends and that causes Rose to drink a lot.
I have to say my opinion and that is all it is, but I have not seen a bad film like this one since Roma (2018). I spent the two hours waiting for something interesting to happen but nothing did. I knew where the surprise would come but when it came it was not something worth the wait at least for me. The movie just got tiresome for me and I don’t mind slow films if the story grabs me, this one did not.
I will grant this to the film and is that the performances are good, maybe the only thing worth seeing in the film. Benedict and Kirsten shine in the film.
I can’t say it does not deserve all the nominations, but for me, there are better films.
