Directed by Ron Howard
Starring Jim Carrey, Molly Shannon, Christine Baranski, Taylor Momsen
I was a big fan, well still am, of the cartoon How the grinch stole Christmas. It is a simple story but I have always liked it.
The story for this film remains the same with a little back story to the Grinch’s childhood added. But the main story remained the same. The movie tells the story of the Grinch who lived among the Who’s. He hated Christmas and is set on ruining Christmas for everyone. Can Cindy Lou change the Grinch’s heart and show the Who’s the real meaning of Christmas?
As I said, I loved the story before and Ron Howard did a great job at bringing the style and look of the cartoon (or the book) to real life. From the sets and the make-up, it all worked to bring Whoville to life. The movie had a lot of charm and many funny moments. For me, it’s one of those films that come Christmas time I always feel the desire to see it. I liked that they added a back story as to why he hated Christmas that much because from the start they show that he was different in his love for Christmas.
Jim Carrey was the perfect choice for the role. He became this character and is funny from start to finish. Taylor was sweet as Cindy. I love Christine Baranski and here she was funny as Martha May Who. The movie has a good cast and they all played their part in making this a good movie, at least in my opinion.
