Stone Temple Pilots: Purple (1994)

Produced by Brendan O’Brien

The era of grunge produced many bands but not all were great. I have four bands that I like and two that I say are among my favorite bands. The two bands that stand out to me are Pearl Jam and Nirvana. Stone Temple Pilots and Soundgarden are the two bands that I like and would pick apart from all the bands of the grunge era.

Stone Temple Pilot debuted in 1992 with the album Core, but for me, their second effort is the better album. Purple for me it’s a great album. It has catchy songs and great rock tracks. The music is written mostly by the DeLeo brothers and the lyrics were written by Weiland.

The songs that stand out to me are Vaseline, a short and to-the-point rock song. Interstate Love Song is a catchy love song, lovely words and melody and the video had a lot of charm. Still Remains is another great track. From the film The Crow, Bug Empty is another great track.

I could pick this album as a stand-out album out of the grunge genre. So sad that Weiland passed away in 2015. He was a talented frontman, not only for STP but also on Velvet Revolver.
