Dr. No (1962)

Directed by Terence Young

Starring Sean Connery, Ursula Andres, Joseph Wiseman.

For a while, I wanted to see the old Bond films again and finally, they are on Hulu so I decided to begin with the first one with Connery.

In this adventure Bond is sent to Jamaica to investigate the disappearance of a British agent. Bond is led to an island where Dr. No, a well-established scientist, is looking to sabotage a space launch.

Although more simple films, I always liked the old films more than the recent ones, not saying they’re bad. This time around, Dr. No serves as a good introduction to the character but definitively not the best one. The villain was not as colorful as others in the Bonds films and the story was less inventive or fun. But the film works anyway and it’s a good film.

Sean Connery is my favorite Bond. His performance is what makes this film for me. He is cool and smooth like his character. Right from the start, he nailed the character.

The first Bond film is far from perfect but yet a worthy introduction to the iconic character.
