Venom 2: Let there be Carnage (2021)

Directed by Andy Serkis

Starring Tom Hardy, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Williams

I am not a big fan of the first film. For me is hard to see Venom without Spider-Man, and to have his origin separated from Spider-Man because in the comics Brock and the symbiote unite because of the mutual hate of Spider-Man. The movie was fun but nothing more. The sequel adds Carnage and although I feel the same way, I think it might be an entertaining movie.

The movie is set three years after the first film and Eddie is trying to get back as a journalist. Cletus Kasady is a serial killer and he wants Eddie to do a story on him, Venom gets angry and Kasady bites him and by that, a piece of Venom turns Kasady into Carnage.

What to say about the film. The same thing I felt about the first one. It entertains but nothing more. I found the story to be silly, I do not like Venom being funny and I did not like the dynamic between him and Eddie. The action when Venom and Carnage fight is the only thing that got me excited in the film. Carnage was on point in terms of how evil and crazy Kasady is.

Tom Hardy is a great actor and I like him as Venom. I expected a bit more from Woody, I think he played it simple and not as crazy as I know he could have made the character, some things were not his fault, but of the script. Michelle Williams’s character felt unnecessary and she did not have to put much effort into the character, and I think she is a great actress.

The only good thing in the film was the mid-credit scene. I liked the effects and the fight at the end but the road to get there was not good for me.
