Paul McCartney and Wings: London Town (1978)

Produced by Paul McCartney

I have to admit that I recently bought the LP version of this album and sat down to listen to it and I fell in love with the album when before I just thought it was ok. I’m not saying it’s a masterpiece but it does have its charm.

After the massive success of the Wings over America tour and past albums Speed of Sound, Venus and Mars and Band on the run. The group went to Abbey Road and then recoded in a yacht. One of the things I like about this album is that it feels like a band effort because Paul and Denny collaborated on various songs and they were good. The title track is one of my favorites from the album and co-written by Paul and Denny. The album has a few short songs but they have their charm, songs like “I’m carrying” and “Backwards traveler” are sweet short songs. I’ve had enough is a cool rock song excellently performed by Paul on vocals. The first side is the strongest side of the album, but songs like “With a little luck”, “Deliver your children” and “Famous Groupies” make the second side worth listening to.

The album did not have the success of earlier albums and in a way Wings never achieved that success again since Back to the egg was not as successful either and it turned out to be their last and Paul went on as a solo artist. One song was not included on the album and it is one of my favorite McCartney/Lane songs and is Mull of Kintyre.
