X-Men Origins:Wolverine (2009)

Directed by Gavin Hood

Starring Hugh Jackman, Liev Shri, Ryan Reynolds

I have not seen it in the film I think since I saw it in the theater. It is a film that has a negative cloud over it. Besides Jackman as Wolverine, the rest of the film is not considered good. I saw it on Disney + and I decided to see it again after so many years.

The purpose of the film is to tell the story of how Wolverine came to be the one known as an X-Men. We see him as a child where he and Victor run away and together they fight in every war and become a part of a special group. When Wolverine leaves the group he and Victor don’t speak again until 6 years later when Stryker re-enters the picture and Victor is killing all the members of the “special” group.

That is a brief telling of the story more or less. What can I say, the film certainly is not perfect. I think the first half of the film is great. The action and the storyline flow nicely and the fight sequences looked good. I think they should have kept the focus on Wolverine and not form a group and have other mutants involved in the story. The second half of the film for me went down a bit. The fights are cool throughout the whole film, but the story does not fare as well.

For me is always good seeing Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Here he is the best of the film no doubt. Liev Schreiber was good as Sabertooth. In the X-Men cartoons, one of my favorite characters was Gambit and here I feel he was not used well, it felt like a missed opportunity.

The sequel and Logan are far better entries in the Wolverine films. This one is not all bad, but it has too many flaws.
