There was a lot of hype for this movie. I know the fame of the video game, but video games made into films rarely work.
The story is about Sub-Zero killing all those who are destined to beat the Outworlds ruled by Shang Tsung in the Mortal Kombat tournament.
When it comes to movies based on video games, this one is better than most. It has a few things that I did not like but it was not a horrible movie. I have not seen all of the Mortal Kombat films, I found it interesting that they did not make this a tournament film. The idea of having them fight before to prevent a prophecy was interesting. But, I have to admit I did not like the characters, I don’t know why but characters in video games when brought to life are kind of silly.
I will give this to the film, the fight sequences are great. The first battle was good and throughout the film, the fights looked good and resembled the game. So, if that is all you wanted to see, you will be satisfied.
The performances were too over the top for me. I liked Hiroyuki as Scorpion, but I have enjoyed his performances in Last Samurai and The Wolverine.
So even with the things I did not like, the movie had entertaining moments. Don’t expect a great story or acting, just enjoy the fights and the fatalities.
