Directed by Darius Marder
Starring Riz Ahmed, Olivia Cooke, Paul Raci
I saw this movie on Amazon Prime before it received any nominations and I thought it looked good, but I did not have prime. I got prime to see Coming 2 America so I decided to see this film.
The movie centers around Ruben, he is a drummer for a band he has with his girlfriend. They live in a van and tour around the country. One day Ruben suddenly stops hearing and goes to a doctor to find that he is losing his hearing. He used to be an addict, so his girlfriend scared he might fall again takes him to a place where he learns how to deal with not hearing.
It was a nice film. I liked how the film sometimes takes out all audio so the audience is experiencing what Ruben is going through. I felt the story was believable because he was learning and finding himself but it was not a complete change or a sudden one.
The best part about the film was Ahmed’s performance. He was convincing and moving as the character was going through the process of losing his hearing. It had a good cast overall, but for me, he carried the movie.
I had a bit more expectations from the film, but I enjoyed it.
