Directed by Ryan Coogler
Starring Michael B. Jordan and Octavia Spencer
I wanted to see this film because I heard of Michael’s performance. I knew it was based on true events but had little knowledge of anything else about the movie.
The movie tells the story of Oscar Grant III in his final hours until the tragic moment where he is killed by San Francisco transit police. We see his relationship with his girlfriend, daughter, and mother as well as him trying to get his job back.
I have to be honest, these films are hard to see. As an audience we know the ending and that it’s tragic. I liked that the movie showed him as a real person, his struggles as well as him trying to do things right. That only makes it harder to see the end. Taking aside the fact that it is based on a true event, I thought the movie was good. But these kind of films are hard to just review them as good or bad, but as a biography film and as a film recreating a true event it was well done.
Michael B. Jordan was great in the film, he has proven to be a good actor in films like No Mercy and Black Panther. Octavia Spencer once again is amazing as Oscar’s mother. In those scenes at the hospital, she was just perfect.
A heartbreaking movie to be honest and more so when we see footage of his daughter. Sad that these things happen because they should not.
