Directed by Steve Brill
Starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Julie Bowen, Ray Liotta
I want to start by saying that I like most of Sandler’s movies even when they are torn apart by the critics. I never expect a masterpiece but Most of them have a nice enough story and make me laugh. So I was looking forward to this film.
The story is about this town Salem and what summer was to the Jaws film, Halloween is to this town. Hubie Dubois is a local man who is scared of Halloween but takes it upon himself to keep everyone safe on that day. The town fears an escaped convict is going there and when people start disappearing, Hubie is on the case to see what was really happening.
I never have huge expectations for Adam’s movies but I expect to at least have fun. This film had all the usual ingredients. A lot of known people and those who usually appear with Adam making appearances in the movie and that most of the time works. I don’t think it did for this one.
It has its moments especially towards the end where I laughed a bit and found that it had a good message. But I forced myself to see it because I was not laughing nor liking the story or the characters. Again, I am not one of those who put Adam Sandler movies down because honestly, I enjoy them. Mystery Train, Grown Ups 1 and 2, Anger Management, and others are fine entertaining films.
The cameos and seeing actors like Ray Liotta in the film gave it something positive but for me it was not enough.
