Directed Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia
Starring Ivan Massagué, Antonia San Juan, Zorion Eguileor
From Spain comes this thriller distributed by Netflix. I have to say that the film does leave you with a lot to think about.
The story begins with Goreng waking up not knowing where he is and there he meets Trimagasi. Trimagasi explains where he is and how things work and at first, they seem friends. They are in a prison-like place known as The hole and the particular thing about the hole is that there 250 floors and food is distributed from top to bottom and the lower floors depend on the leftovers left by those in the top floors. Every month those in the hole change floors sometimes up others down.
I will be honest I found the movie a little slow but it did keep me in suspense as I saw the decay in the mental state of these people as they fought for the basic need of food. I read in Wikipedia that the director said that the basic theme is how humanity needs to share the wealth in order to survive. It makes sense as we see the selfishness of those on the top that eat all they want leaving little for the rest.
Zorion Eguilor was good in the movie. He gave a performance that leaves an impact on your mind. Ivan Massagué also gave a very good performance.
Because of the raw images, I admit I found somethings hard to see and I am not big on this genre but the film got me interested and I had to see the end although it ends in a way I am sure people will try to figure out and have different opinions.
