The Laundromat (2019)

Directed by Steve Soderbergh

Starring Meryl Streep, Gary Oldman, Antonio Banderas

Released on Netflix last week, the film is a look at Ghost Companies and how they work. It reminds me of the film The Big Short in the style it was narrated. Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas explain to the camera how everything worked just like The Big Short did.

The film centers around Ellen who loses her husband in a boat ride. When the boat owner finds he was not really insured, Ellen starts looking into the insurance company and finds something strange.

I was expecting more from a film with such a cast but it felt short for me. I could not get into the film, I finished it but no because I wanted to. It is interesting to the point of seeing what people do to get more money without thinking of others.

Sometimes the actors are great but the material they are given is not at the same level. I think that happened here. Meryl Streep as usual is great in the film. Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas are also very good in the film. It had a talented cast but the story just fell short for me.

I always like to say that this is my opinion, if you were interested in the film, you should see it because for you it might a great film. For me, I just could not get into the movie as I did for The Big Short for example.
