Directed by Edward Zwick
Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Connelly, Djimon Hounsou
Another nominated performance for Leonardo DiCaprio, Blood Diamond is a political thriller about the situation in Africa from 1991 to 2000.
The film starts as Solomon Vandy is separated from his family by rebels, he is taken to work extracting diamonds. They were attacked and brought to jail where Danny Archer was and heard about the pink diamond. They are both released from prison and together they go and look for the diamond. On their journey, they are joined by Maddie Bowen an American reporter trying to expose the truth behind the Blood Diamonds. The main concern is that for the precious diamonds people were getting killed and held as slaves to find the diamonds. Solomon tries desperately to find his family and save his son who now is armed with the rebels. Archer just wants the diamonds to sell them.
One of the hardest things in this film is how they take the children and turned them into killers for political power and money. This is the fight Solomon takes on to save his son who now believes what the revolutionaries from that world he was taken into. The performance by Djimon Hounsou is really powerful and really heartfelt. Leonardo also gives a very powerful performance as well.
