The Aviator (2004)

Directed by Martin Scorsese

Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Alan Alda, Alec Baldwin, Cate Blanchett.

I really did not know of Howard Hughes before seeing the film. A man who was involved in aviation, he made planes and even was involved in making films, some were films I heard about like Scarface (not the Pacino film).

The movie goes back and forward in the timeline of the story and his life. The movie covers his involvement in films and fighting with the rating association. To his interest in planes and his personal life. He dated a lot of famous women and suffered from obsessive-compulsive disorder.

This, in my opinion, should have been the film where Leonardo DiCaprio won his Oscar, his performance is simply outstanding. He is surrounded by a great cast but none outshine in his performance, even though Cate Blanchett won the Oscar for her performance as Katherine Hepburn. He lost to Jamie Foxx, a performance that in my opinion was not at the same level. The scenes where Hughes is isolated in his room are powerful and masterfully executed by DiCaprio.

The movie itself is really long, but it is worth seeing and not just for Leo’s performance. The whole cast is at their best and the movie it is interesting and worth watching.
