Created by Jason Katims, Based on a Ron Howard Film.
Cast: Craig T. Nelson, Peter Krause, Lauren Graham, Dax Shepard, Erika Christensen, Monica Potter, Joy Bryant, and Sam Jaeger.
The series is based on Parenthood, a 1989 comedy-drama film starring Steve Martin, Diane West, and Keanu Reeves. The movie is an honest look at the highs and lows of being a parent, from the point of view of different generations. The father, his sons and his grandchildren. I remember liking the film, it had a good mix of drama and comedy and a lot of heart.
With the same idea, this series takes a look at the Braverman family. Zeek Braverman and Camille are the head of the family. They have four kids and seven grandkids. The show takes a look at their relationship and them as parents even with grown children. The oldest son is Adam, he is married to Kristina and has two kids at the beginning of the show. He is a great father and husband who faces the struggles of having a kid with Aspergers and his teenage daughter, while always being there for his brother and two sisters. Then comes Sarah, married to an alcoholic she goes back home with her two kids, Amber, and Drew, both suffering the absence of their father. Then comes Crosby, he is a typical womanizer and having issues committing to his girlfriend until a surprise revelation changes his life. And the youngest Braverman, Julia is a successful lawyer, married with Joel and have one daughter.
What I loved about this show was the characters and the honesty in the stories, they are funny moments and serious moments and both are performed greatly by the actors. I related to the family because I saw my family in them. We are close and are always looking out for each other. This family always found a way to resolve their issues. Like all shows, it has its moments and story linea that did not feel right, but in all honesty, they were really a few of them.
I have to say that Max Burkholder was phenomenal as Max Braverman, he nailed his character so well from the beginning. The one good thing the show had was the cast. For me, they all won me over and I care for their characters and the things they go through. The addition of Ray Romano gave the last two seasons something extra. He is a great actor.
Overall a good show and is recommended. One of my favorite shows!
