Black Panther (2018)
Directed by Ryan Coogler
Starring Chadwick Boseman, Michael B.Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Forrest Whitaker and Angela Basset.
This film was really big and the first Marvel movie to earn a Best Picture nomination on various awards shows, including the Oscars. Maybe from now on superhero movies will get recognition of that level, we will see.
The film begins with T’Challa’s father going to Oakland looking for his brother who he believes is selling arms in the black market. He is killed by T’Challa’s father and his son finds him with wounds done by the Black Panther claws. In the present day, T’Challa goes back to Wakanda where he is going to be crowned, but first, he has to defeat a tribe leader who challenges him. Meanwhile, his cousin is allied with Klaue, a man considered a threat to Wakanda and had vibranium, a secret technology of Wakanda. His cousin had planned to take Klaue to Wakanda so he could reveal who he was and take the crown from T’Challa.
This movie has a very good story and it is really deep in the message. I think part of its success was that it was really different from the other Marvel movies. The culture that it showed, the costumes and everything was really exciting to see. The one thing I found disappointing was that really Black Panther was not the best character in the film. My brother in law told me and my wife that the film should have been called Okaye, and after we saw the movie we laughed and said he was right. Her fight scenes were great, and maybe it was made that way because he is learning how to be the Black Panther. The other character that for me was better than Black Panther was Killmonger. The character was intense and so brilliantly played by Michael B. Jordan.
The one true thing is that this film has received the most recognition of all the Marvel movies, and deservingly so.
