Iron Man (2008)
Directed by Jon Favreau
Starring Robert Downy Jr, Jeff Bridges, Terrence Howard, and Gwyneth Paltrow
Next month the last next chapter of The Avengers will hit theaters and with the last trailer recently released, I am very excited and can’t wait to see it. Infinity War was really an epic film that left me really in shock at the end. I read the comic and they did it fairly similar and what was different was an improvement in my opinion. So, I wanted to take a look back at the Marvel Cinematic Universe and remember the films leading up to Endgame. I will focus on films done by Marvel Studios so Sony movies with characters won’t be included.
The first ever movie done by Marvel Studios was Iron Man in 2008. Here we see playboy and millionaire Tony Stark before he makes the iron suite. The film begins with Tony in Afghanistan demonstrating new weapons developed by Stark Industries with his friend Col. Rhodes. He is ambushed and taken hostage by terrorists who demanded that he built them weapons. With the help of another prisoner, he developed an iron suite to help them escape. Powered by an electromagnet that Tony has to have in order to stay alive. With that, he fueled the iron suit and escapes. Upon returning to his home he has a change of heart and decides that Stark industries will no longer make weapons, a decision not approved by Obadiah Stane, Stark Industries second in command. Secretly Tony developed the Iron Man suit. He is betrayed by Stane, who was involved in the kidnapping of Tony and takes the idea of the iron suite to build one for himself and tries to kill Tony. He is then rescued by Potts; his faithful assistant and he goes to battle with Stane.
This first movie was very successful both critically and in the box office. The first thing they got right was hiring Robert Downy Jr for the part, he is perfect as Tony Stark. I would compare him with Hugh Jackman in terms that it is hard to imagine someone else playing Wolverine. But in this sense Marvel really picked well the actors to portray the characters, Thor and Captain America also have the perfect actors to play them. of course, having the great Jeff Bridges did not hurt, in truth, the movie has a good cast. The story is also very well done and loyal to the comic book origin, or the feeling of the comic books.
The special effects were really good, I really liked the scene where Iron Man goes to fight the terrorists that had Stark’s weapons and the whole sequence until he escapes the US army. The only thing for me was that Iron Man did not have more action scenes but that is normal in origin movies. But overall this was a great start to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
