Beautiful Boy starring Steve Carrel, Timothée Chalamet, Maura Tierney and Amy Ryan. Directed by: Felix Van Goeningen
The movie is based on the real life story of David Sheff and Nic Sheff. Based on books written separately by both of them about the struggle of addiction. One on the father’s perspective and the other on Nic who was battling addiction to crystal meth, amor other drugs.
Many people are turned off by what they say is Steve Carrel looking for an Oscar, but I think he is simply picking non comedic roles. He has made some great performances as of late and this one is no exception. He is truly heartbreaking in the struggle of a father who loves his son and wants to see him well. Chalamet in an Golden Globe nominated performance does a great job as he struggles with his addictions as he sees the effect it has on his family.
I think the movie was very well done. For any parent it’s a hard movie to see just to imagine being in the father’s place, so powerless as he tries to save his son
