It’s that the time of the year where we take a look back at the year, I want to say that thesis are the ones I liked best of the movies I saw, not in any order. This was a good year in movies.
1. Black Panther
This movie was really big and surprising for me that it even earned a Golden Globe nomination for best picture. The movie is really well done. For me the best part of the film is Micheal B. Johnson as the villain, he really did a great job on it.
2. I can only imagine
This movie is really touching and it is based on the story of Bart Millard, singer-songwriter of the christian band Mercyme. Dennis Quaid was really good on it and so was the actor who played Bart. The story did not seemed forced as other christian movies tend to, it flowed naturally and the message of God and hope was still there without having everything solved like magic like sadly many other christian movies do.
3. Avengers: Infinity War
The motherland of superheroes, the one we waited for 10 years and it did not disappoint. The amazing thing for me was that although there were so many characters and story lines, it worked perfectly and the pace was just right between the action and the story. Thanos has to be one of the best villains on screen, Brolin was flawless in the role. We just got the trailer for the second part and I can’t wait to see it.
4. Mamma Mia! Here we go again.
Ok, what can I say I enjoyed it, guilty pleasure as they say. I think is the music of ABBA that helps you to like the movie. I am alone at this, but I actually enjoyed it more than the first one. I like how Donna was portrayed as her younger self, the songs were so good also. Yes there were things I thought were too much like Cher arriving like a diva, even though the in the movie that was how the grandmother was described. It was just a fun movie and I loved it.
This was a great film and the ending just shocking and disturbing. One of Spike Lee’s best in years. Is a move you have to see, if just for the ending because it is sad that it has to do with recent events. I really liked Adam Silver’s performance.
6. A Star Is Born
One of my favorites this year, and a strong contender for best actor and actress awards in my opinion. I really liked the movie and felt Bradly Cooper really was the center of it, even though Lady Gaga was also great along with supporting cast.
7. Bohemian Rhapsody
The story of the great Freddie Mercury, the movie was really good driven by Malik’s great portrayal of Mercury, he had it all down, the way Freddie looked, walked and talked, he really was like watching Freddie again. The songs are great, and even though some facts were changed, it is understandable and does not affect the story and the movie.
This is DC’s best movie so far, even though Wonder Woman was good, this one truly is great. The effects are so good. I liked the action and the way Aquaman is portrayed in the film. Who could have said that maybe the hardest character to make a film of would be their best, at least in my opinion.
9. Mary Poppins Returns
A truly wonderful movie and it feels new but familiar to the classic. I also loved that it was not a remake, the change of actors was normal due to their age, but the story is new. Emily Blunt did a good job of making Poppins her character without loosing Andrew’s great work on the original.
